Siblings From Karachi Make Record of Highest Collective Age

The age of the nine sisters and three brothers of the D'Cruz family range from 75 to 97 years and they were all born in Karachi

A family of Karachi-born 12 elderly siblings has made it to the Guinness World Record for the highest combined age of 1,042 years and 315 days.

The age of all elderly Karachi-born siblings of the D’Cruz family includes nine sisters and three brothers the range from 75 to 97 years and their accumulative age is a world record.

They were all born in Karachi before partition of India. Over the years, the family spread out across Canada, the United States (US), and Switzerland.

Though the siblings don’t live together, they still share a close bond. They try to see each other at least thrice a year on major holidays.

This year the meeting ritual got disrupted due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the 12 siblings who won the Guinness World Record do zoom chats daily.

The range of ages is between 75 and 97 years, with Genia Carter being the youngest in the family.

One of the siblings, Joyce Desouza, 91, said that the award is one of the greatest highlights of their lives.

She further added, “We’re very proud of the fact that we’re still alive. That’s the greatest part”.

Guinness World Records, known from its inception in 1955 until 1999 as The Guinness Book of Records and in previous United States editions as The Guinness Book of World Records, is a reference book published annually, listing world records both of human achievements and the extremes of the natural world.

The brainchild of Sir Hugh Beaver, the book was co-founded by twin brothers Norris and Ross McWhirter in Fleet Street, London, in August 1954.
