Chinese Financier Hits World Record; Paid 1.6m Euros for Female Pigeon

New Kim was put up for auction at just 200 euros

WEB DESK: A chinese buyer paid 1.6m euros ($1.9 million) for a female homing pigeon called New Kim.

The sale surpassed last year’s record of 1.25m euros for a male pigeon, while the female pigeon being put up for auction at just 200 euros.

Pigeon fancying (breeding and racing of domestic pigeons) is rooted in Belgian and Dutch life with the tradition spreading over to northern France however, now facing decline.

European birds have won global fame in last few years. It has gained fame particularly in China where pigeon racing can generate huge winnings.

Rich and wealthy buyers from the Gulf and Asia have forced up prices for champion birds.

These birds have instinctive ability to fly as many as hundreds of kilometres and still find their way back home.
