Super Mario Game Sold in Millions After 35 Years
The game stayed in a desk drawer since 1986 and the Heritage Auctions called it the “finest known copy”
As per a report in Bloomberg, an unopened copy of a famous late 80s game series, Nintendo Super Mario Bros, that was bought in 1986 was sold at auction for $660,000.
The Super Mario game was bought as a Christmas gift but the buyer forgot it in a drawer. The game was sealed in plastic with its hang tab still intact.
The video game was sold last Friday at a record price, maintained the auction house, Heritage Auctions.
Previously, the record was held by another copy of the same game that was sold for $114,000 in July last year.

The game stayed in the desk drawer for 35 years and the Heritage Auctions called it the “finest known copy”.
“It stayed in the bottom of my office desk this whole time since the day I bought it,” the seller, who asked not to be identified, told Heritage Auctions.
“I never thought anything about it”, he added.
A Heritage’s video game specialist Valarie McLeckie said, “Since the production window for this copy and others like it was so short, finding another copy from this same production run in similar condition would be akin to looking for a single drop of water in an ocean”.

As per McLeckie, the game was produced in 1986 when the games were sealed with plastic shrink wraps rather than sticker seal.
