ESL officials said all these major clubs have agreed to start a new football event.

The move has come after founding clubs believe the coronavirus pandemic has destabilized the existing economic model of European football.

They also said that all clubs joining the new league will play their national leagues as well.

The officials asserted three more clubs have given green signals to join the inaugural season of the league.

A woman competition is also on cards once the men competition is launched successfully.

UEFA Champions League and FIFA have condemned the move which is expected to create a new controversy in the European football regime.

Global football governing body FIFA ruled out recognizing ESL and warned that the players taking part in it could be barred from playing the World Cup.

Further, UEFA, Union of European Football Associations, also issued a warning that the footballers could be banned from playing domestic, European, or at the international stage if they do not separate themselves from ESL.

However, in response to the outrage received, ESL in an official statement said, “Going forward, the founding clubs look forward to holding discussions with UEFA and FIFA to work together in partnership to deliver the best outcomes for the new league and for football as a whole”.
