Twelve candidates have passed away while waiting for the organisation of Karachi Local Government (LG) polls which was postponed for the third time by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
A day before holding LG polls, the ECP postponed the LG elections in Karachi scheduled for October 16 after receiving multiple requests from the Sindh government citing the shortage of government officials.
“The decision was taken in the best interest of public to ensure their safety & security. The elections required static deployment of law enforcement personnel which was refused by Interior. All 5000 polling stations declared sensitive,” an ECP spokesperson said on Twitter.
