22 days on, NAB still clueless in search for Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Durrani

The PPP leader is facing charges of procuring assets beyond his known sources of income allegedly through corruption.

Twenty-two days on, but there is still no clue of the whereabouts of fugitive Sindh Assembly Speaker and PPP leader Agha Siraj Durrani.

Last month on Oct 13, the Sindh High Court had rejected the bail pleas of Agha Siraj Durrani and 10 others in the Rs1.6 billion graft case. Soon after the rejection of the bail pleas, NAB team raided the residence of Durrani, where the PPP workers and the servants of Durrani offered resistance, disallowing it to enter the house.

The raiding team returned the next morning from the house of speaker without arresting him.

Since then, NAB team and Sindh Police have failed to trace the fugitive PPP leader.

The PPP lawmaker by escaping arrest has mad mockery of law and system.

If the elected lawmakers will not follow the law of the land then what we should expect from the common man. The Sindh Speaker should surrender to the NAB and face the trial like a responsible citizen. The fleeing of the PPP leader also raises a question mark over the performance of NAB and police who had failed to trace him despite passage of over 20 days.

Durrani is facing charges of procuring assets beyond his known sources of income allegedly through corruption.

NAB claimed that the Speaker could not account for a difference of over Rs1.6 billion between his declared total income and assets from 1985 to 2018.

His wife Naheed and three daughters Sonya, Sara and Shahana have already been exempted from personal appearance by the court.
