No holy cow in the country, PM Imran tells SC

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard the APS case.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday appeared in the Supreme Court of Pakistan concerning the Army Public School case.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard the APS case.

During the hearing, Prime Minister Imran Khan asked the Supreme Court to issue order and the government will take action on it.

He said:” We believe in the rule of law. There is no holy cow in the country.”

Prime Minister Imran Khan said the government will investigate why 80,000 people were killed and why 480 drone attacks were carried inside the country. The Chief Justice observed that you are the prime minister, you are supposed to take action. You have the authority, you have to answer all the questions.

Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed asked the prime minister what did the state do to provide justice to the children’s parents? At which, the prime minister replied that when this incident happened, I immediately arrived in Peshawar, even though I was not in the government at that time.
The Chief Justice remarked that you are in power now, what did you do to bring the criminals to justice?

The prime minister said that give me a chance to speak and I will explain one by one. We were in power in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at that time. We took all possible steps.

Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked that we have nothing to do with your policy decisions. We are asking why criminals could not be traced even after so many years. The Supreme Court inquired what steps you (PM) have taken for the future.

Justice Qazi Amin inquired that we have media reports that you people are negotiating with these people.

Justice Ijaz-ul-Hassan observed that as per media reports no action had been taken against the perpetrators.

Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked that protection of citizens is responsibility of the state according to the Constitution.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had summoned Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed has ordered that the prime minister should be summoned to have a conversation with him.

Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed inquired from the attorney general whether the prime minister had read the court order.

The attorney general replied to the Supreme Court that the summons had not been sent to the prime minister. To which, the Chief Justice said the attorney general that this is a serious matter.
