Around 400 Parliamentarians May Get Suspended in Jan
Eight members of the incumbent cabinet are among those who haven't submitted their details
Nearly one-third of 1,195 parliamentarians in the country have not filed the details of their assets and liabilities with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) despite the deadline for which their membership can be suspended.
As many as 394 legislators in Pakistan have disregarded the deadline to submit details of assets and liabilities with ECP which is posing a threat for them as their membership will be suspended after the new deadline of January 15.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Imran Khan, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, and Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari have filed the required documents.
However, eight members of the incumbent cabinet are among the non-filers too.
They include Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar, Special Assistant to the PM on CDA Ali Nawaz Awan (both MNAs from Islamabad), Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood, Minister for Climate Change Zartaj Gul, Minister for Ports and Shipping Syed Ali Haider Zaidi, Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhary, Minister for Religious Affairs Noorul Haq Qadri, Minister for States and Frontier Regions Sahibzada Mohammad Mehboob Sultan and Minister for Industries and Production Hammad Azhar.
Along with it, the statements of Punjab and Sindh chief ministers haven’t been submitted too.
National Assembly (NA) Opposition leader Shehbaz Sharif, Punjab Assembly Opposition Leader Hamza Shahbaz, former Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani are also among those whose details are not yet out.
Senators
Senators including Musadik Malik, Ayesha Raza Farooq, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, Syed Muhammad Ali Shah Jamot, Liaqat Khan Tarakai, Mir Kabeer Ahmed Muhammad Shahi, Shammim Afridi, and Mirza Muhammad Afridi, etc have not yet been able to submit details of their assets.
ECP has warned that the memberships of public representatives who would not submit details will be suspended on January 16 and they will not be able to participate in the Senate elections.
National Assembly
Of 342 Member of the National Assembly (MNAs), 112 did not submit their returns.
The names of the few are Sardar Nasrullah Khan Dreshak, Mr. Khawja Sheraz Mehmood, Alam Dad Lalika, Khurram Dastgir, Bashir Warak, Usman Ibrahim, Amir Kayani, Ali Nawaz Awan, Raza Rabani Khar etc.

Minority MNAs including Dr Darshan, Lal Chand, Jai Prakash, Jamshed Thomas, etc while women MNAs elected on reserved seats include Hina Rabbani Khar, Maleeka Ali Bokhari, Naz Baloch, Shandana Gulzar Khan, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Kiran Imran Dar, Romina Khalid Alam, etc.
Punjab
Out of 371 members of the Punjab Assembly, 144 did not file details of the assets.
They include Law Minister Raja Basharat, Umar Tanveer, Zafar Iqbal, Muhammad Manshaullah, Mazhar Hussain Ranjha, and others.
Sindh
Some 48 members of 168 members of the Sindh Assembly are among those who could face suspension.
They include Qaim Ali Shah, Saeed Ghani, Munawar Wasan, Sharjeel Inam Memon, Mir Shabbir Ali Bijarani, Sardar Khan Chandio, Mr. Ali Gohar Khan Mahar, Syed Farukh Shah, and others.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan
Some 50 MPAs of a total of 145 of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly have swords of suspension hanging over their heads too.
They include Kamran Bangash, Amjad Khan Afridi, Sher Azam Khan Wazir, Molana Hidayat Ur Rehman, and others.
Whereas, some 26 provincial lawmakers of a total of 65 of the Balochistan Assembly did not meet ECP’s deadline.
The members include Masood Khan, Mir Sarfraz Chakar Domki, Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran, Mir Sikandar Ali, Mir Younis Zehri, etc.
