Australian Test captain Tim Paine quits after sexting bombshell

Cricketer had sent an indecent pic and lewd messages to ex-Tasmania employee before the 2017-18 Ashes series.

Australian captain Tim Paine has quit as Test captain after it had been emerged that he was probed by the Cricket Australia following a sexting scandal.

It was revealed that Tim Paine sent an indecent pic and lewd messages to ex-Tasmania employee before the 2017-18 Ashes series.

The former Tasmania employee alleged she was offended by Tim Paine’s unsolicited picture of his genitals and sexual comments.

In Hobart, Tim Paine confirmed while speaking to the media that he had stepped down captain of Australian Test squad with immediate effect.

He said that the decision to quit captaincy was very difficult but the right for him, his family and cricket.

He further said that about four years ago he was involved in a text-exchange with a former Tasmania employee. The matter was probed by CA Integrity Unit investigation and Cricket Tasmania HR investigation and it was found that there had been no violation of the Cricket Australia Code of Conduct.

The Australian captain said that he was deeply regretted the incident. He further said that he was grateful to his wife and family for their support.

He admitted that his actions back in 2017 did not meet the Australian cricket captain standard.

Tim Paine also sought apology for any damage done to reputation of cricket and announced to step down as captain with immediate effect.
