An OTT (over-the-top) platform is likely to release a documentary based on corruption stories of the ruling Sharif family in Pakistan, Behind Closed Doors, whose official trailer is out now.

Speculations were made about Behind Closed Door’s release on the popular OTT platform, Netflix, however, there was no confirmation about the streaming service going to release the upcoming documentary.

The trailer premiered on a YouTube channel named Independent POV yesterday. As per the description of the upcoming documentary, “Behind Closed Doors is a film about corruption in high places and those who enable it.” It is a film by Michael Oswald and Murtaza Mehdi.

The Laundromat: Netflix’s drama film mentions Nawaz Sharif’s corruption

“Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs) are people who hold a public function and as a result, present higher risks of being involved in bribery or corruption. Offshore leaks have revealed repeatedly that PEPs use British finance and British offshore jurisdictions to launder their wealth, hide their wealth and re-invest it into the global financial system. London is the place where they buy property, where they take legal action against their critics and where they live when they fall from grace.”

“But what happens when a developing country fights back and attempts to get Britain to return the money that it claims has been stolen?”

The documentary features contributions by John-Allan Namu of Africa Uncensored, Emin Huseynov, Arshad Sharif, Rachel Davies Teka of Transparency International, Tom Stocks of the OCCRP, Imran Khan the former Pakistani Prime Minister, Fawad Chaudhry, Shahzad Akbar and journalist Irfan Hashmi.

The trailer is widely circulated on social media platforms as audiences are eagerly waiting to see more revelations about the Sharif family’s corrupt practices.

The corruption stories of Pakistani rulers are now being narrated globally by international media and foreign film industries.

Before the release of Behind Closed Doors’ official trailer, a 2019 Netflix comedy-drama film, The Laundromat, mentioned the Sharif family’s corruption as the movie was based on ‘Panama City law firm and its vested interest in helping the world’s wealthiest citizens amass larger fortunes.’

The Laundromat’s storyline stated, “When her idyllic vacation takes an unthinkable turn, Ellen Martin (Meryl Streep) begins investigating a fake insurance policy, only to find herself down a rabbit hole of questionable dealings that can be linked to a Panama City law firm and its vested interest in helping the world’s wealthiest citizens amass larger fortunes.”

It also mentioned the corrupt practices of the ruling Sharif family including former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. Several netizens suggested people watch the movie to find out the corrupt practices of the world’s wealthiest citizens.

However, ‘Behind Closed Doors’ was not the beginning as one of the most popular documentaries on corruption stories of the ruling families of Pakistan, Bhutto and Sharif, was a 1996 BBC documentary titled, “Princess and the Playboy” which was based on Asif Ali Zardari and Benazir Bhutto late.
