Cement Sales in October Break Monthly Record

First four months of the fiscal year showed 20 percent increase in local and export cement dispatches

WEB DESK: The incumbent government’s resolve to uplift construction industry in the country has consequently boomed cement sales to record breaking.

The cement sales during October reached 5.73 million tonnes (mt) which is the highest-ever monthly record, the data released by All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) for October 2020 confirmed.

Breaking down the volume, the local consumption went up during the month as it rose by 16 percent to 4.86mt while exports surged by 11.58 percent to 875,266 tonnes.

The domestic cement dispatches in the north region, KPK, AJ&K, northern areas of Punjab and Balochistan, stood at 4.16m during October while the exports share remained 0.28 mt during the same period.In the south region comprising Sindh and Southern Balochistan, the domestic dispatches were recorded at 695,221 tonnes followed by a 13 percent rise to 591,877 tonnes last month from 523,353 tonnes in October 2019.

The first four months of the fiscal year 2020-21 (4MFY21) ended up with a 20 percent increase in local and export cement dispatches with 19.32mt versus 16.12mt in the same period last fiscal year.

The domestic growth in the south region experienced a surge as consumption remained at 2.085mt, a 12 percent rise during the first four months of last year.

The export volume from the region was recorded to be 2.712mt between July and October.

Analysts said that flooding liquidity in housing and construction was the primary reason behind the boost in record sales.
