CJ Gulzar Ahmed reprimands commissioner over slow progress of Nasla Tower demolition

Orders to raze structure using entire city's machinery.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed has expressed anger at the Karachi commissioner after submission of the demolition report on the Nasla Tower.

The Chief Justice was hearing a case concerning  demolition of Nasla Tower at the Karachi registry of the Supreme Court today.

Justice Gulzar Ahmed questioned how much the building has been demolished and how much work has been done? To which, Commissioner Iqbal Memon told the court that demolition operation had been launched to raze Nasla Tower.

The CJP responded “Do not lie”. The commissioner requested:” Sir kindly listen to me.” To which, the Chief Justice asked the commissioner are you at your home right now, is this the way to speak in a court? He warned Iqbal Memon: “Do not try to be over smart.”

The commissioner replied “Sir, I am trying to raze the building.”

On the occasion, Justice Gulzar Ahmed asked the Advocate General about the service grade of the commissioner.  The AG told the court that the commissioner is a grade-21 officer.

The Chief Justice asked is this the way of a grade-21 officer to speak in court?

Justice Gulzar Ahmed then observed that local administration has not even demolished the Tejori Heights. To which, the commissioner said that the process of demolishing Tejori Heights is underway.

The Chief Justice said that if the demolition operation is in progress then submit a report alongwith pictures by afternoon.
