CPPA requests to increase electricity price by Rs4.75
NEPRA officials said one unit of China Hub has been shut down for six months, with demand for electricity exceeding 18% over the previous year.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested NEPRA to increase the fuel price adjustment by Rs 4.75 per unit for the month of October.
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) heard a request for an October fuel price adjustment. In which NEPRA officials have taken a stand that in October 10 percent more electricity was generated than furnace oil, the use of expensive furnace oil and rising global prices increased the cost of electricity generation.

In the petition, additional amount has also been sought from CPPA in respect of previous adjustment of Rs. 5.20 billion.
On the other hand, NEPRA officials said that violation of merit order has burdened the exchequer to the tune of over Rs 1.77 billion.
The shortage of LNG has caused a burden of more than Rs 1.69 billion. If the supply of LNG had been in line with the demand, less electricity could have been generated from furnace oil. Coal generated 15% electricity instead of 25%.
