Dutch Royals Can Marry Same Sex Without Losing Crown

Netherlands was the first country that legalized same-sex marriage back in 2001 but it was allowed for the royals until now

In current development, the Dutch Royal family trimmed the rules for the members and allowed same-sex marriages without giving up the crown.

Netherlands Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced that Crown Princess Catharina-Amalia could marry someone of the same sex without giving up her crown.

Amalia is the daughter of King Willem-Alexander and not much is known about her personal life.

She hasn’t made any comment yet on the matter.

“The cabinet therefore does not see that an heir to the throne or the King should abdicate if he/she would like to marry a partner of the same sex,” Rutte wrote in a letter to the parliament.

Additionally, Netherlands was the first country that legalized same-sex marriage back in 2001 but it was allowed for the royals until now.
