ECP orders LG elections in Karachi and Hyderabad on January 15th
ECP has directed Chief Secretary Sindh, Home Secretary and IG Sindh to take all security measures regarding the holding of local body elections.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has given January 15 as the date for local body elections in Karachi and Hyderabad. The Election Commission has directed all the concerned institutions to complete the arrangements.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has ordered to hold off local body elections in both cities on January 15.

It should be noted that the Sindh government requested to postpone the local body elections for 90 days.
It was requested by the Sindh government that police are deployed in Sindh for relief activities for the flood-affected people due to which it is difficult to make security arrangements.
The Sindh government had said that a heavy police force has been deployed in Sindh to help the flood victims, due to which the required number of police is not available to control the law and order situation during the elections.
The Election Commission had reserved the decision on the request of the Sindh government which was pronounced today.
Elections in Hyderabad and Karachi divisions have been postponed from time to time due to various reasons.
The Election Commission of Pakistan, in its short order, has asked the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, and IG Sindh to take necessary security measures till January 15, 2023, and ensure that on January 15, 2023, Haider Municipal elections should be held in Abad Division and Karachi Division.
It should be noted that the decision pronounced by the Election Commission was reserved on November 15.
The Sindh government, Pakistan People’s Party, and MQM Pakistan took sides to stop the election.
