Eight Nobel Laureates Call for release of Israeli hostages

Prize winners called on World Leaders to secure safe return of kidnapped civilians under Hamas custody

8 Nobel Prize laureates have signed the report and made a call to the UN Secretary General, President of the Red Cross, and Director of the World Health Organization: Act for the hostages’ immediate release and transfer of medicines and medical aid to them!

Aaron Ciechanover, Dan Shechtman, Avram Hershko, Ada Yonath ,Michael Levitt, Roger Kornberg, Arieh Warshel, Daniel Kahneman in a letter wrote that three months have passed since the massacre of October 7th, during which over 240 people were brutally kidnapped from their homes and from a music festival in southern Israel to the Gaza Strip.

Many hostages were kidnapped from home without vision aids, hearing aids, or mobility devices, thereby exacerbating their physical health problems and contributing to the deterioration of their mental well-being. Other hostages suffer from pre-existing mental health illnesses, and others were severely injured during the brutal kidnapping which puts them at risk of infections, which, when left untreated, may become life-threatening. Some of the hostages suffer from illnesses related to the harsh captivity conditions, which include physical and psychological torture, wrote Nobel Laureates.

Esteemed dignitaries stated in their letter that these are groups that require special protection and care under the international laws of war, due to their increased vulnerability to severe physical and psychological harm. If no medical care is provided urgently for all hostages, the result could be irreversible health problems at best and death at worst.

The letter published also contains examples of 38 hostages detailing their specific medical needs and health condition at the time of their kidnapping.
