Election Tribunal upholds ECP’s decision of rejecting Jamshed Cheema’s nomination papers
The PTI leader had challenged the Election Commission's verdict.
The Lahore High Court’s Election Tribunal on Friday upheld the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision rejecting the nomination papers of PTI candidate Jamshed Iqbal Cheema and his wife for NA-133 by elections.
The election tribunal headed by Justice Shahid Jamil Khan had turned down the appeals of Jamshed Cheema and Musarrat Cheema.
The voter list of the year 2018 was presented in the court on the occasion.
According to the PML-N, his vote was in NA-130 in 2018, according to the voter list.

The tribunal’s judge asked the Election Commission lawyer why the NA number is not mentioned on the vote certificate? To which, the election commission said that there is a code on it.
Justice Shahid Jamil Khan inquired if there was any legal explanation. The Election Commission lawyer said that the list is prepared in line with the data received from Nadra. A schedule was issued in 2020 that votes can be changed in case of objection, he added.
While taking part in the discussion, PML-N lawyer said that voter certificate can not be used as a document as it is only for personal information. Section 64 of the Election Commission Act allows one candidate to submit five nomination papers. A candidate can submit nomination of 5 papers against single fee. Nevertheless, only one nomination papers were submitted.
Jamshed Iqbal Cheema’s lawyer said on the occasion that section 31, 37 asks for an application for vote transfer. The Election Commission of Pakistan did not inform about change of vote, therefore, a voter cannot be punished for the ECP’s mistake.
The lawyer for appellant said that the candidate and the proposer should be residents of same area.
