Renowned Indian writer, director, actor and producer Farhan Akhtar has welcomed the picking up of openly gay advocate Saurabh Kirpal as judge of Delhi High Court.
Taking to Twitter, the director said:” It is a massive step forward in sensitising minds to focus on merit and not on sexual orientation.”

The Bollywood’s leading actor and director praised the historic decision to remove homosexuality from the Indian Supreme Court’s crime category. He that the Supreme Court had proven that there is no importance of sexual orientation in the country but decisions are made on merit, which is a historical decision for equality in society.
It is to be mentioned here that a five-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Justice Deepak Mishra had approved the appointment of gay judge Saurabh Kirpal for the first time in the Delhi high court.
The Supreme Court has revoked its 2013 decision in a verdict.
