FM Bilawal Bhutto Zardari embarks on foreign visits in search for assistance

His foreign visits are scheduled at a time when the country is facing political and economic crises.

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has embarked on foreign visits to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), United States (US), China and Switzerland to seek assistance for the country facing a series of crises.

FM Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will arrive in the United Arab Emirates to offer condolences to the Al-Nahyan family, the leadership and people of the UAE, on the passing away of President late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

After concluding his UAE visit, FM Bilawal will depart for New York to attend the ministerial meeting on the “Global Food Security Call to Action” to be held at the United Nations on May 18. He will be attended by the Global Food Security conference at the invitation of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

According to the Foreign Office, the meeting will bring together a regionally diverse group of countries including those most affected by food insecurity and those in a position to take action to address it.

The foreign minister will also participate in the open debate of the UN Security Council on “Maintenance of International Peace and Security-Conflict and Food Security” on Thursday. He will highlight Pakistan’s perspective in the two meetings and also hold a meeting with the US Secretary of State.

He will also address the second session at the UN Security Council on May 19.

The foreign minister’s one-on-one meeting with Secretary Blinken may happen on the sidelines of the conference as a separate meeting in Washington seems unlikely.

Bilawal will return from the US on May 19 and later he will depart for China on May 20 for paying a two-day official visit. He will be visiting China at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart.

After the conclusion of the China visit, the foreign minister will visit Davos, Switzerland, where he will attend the meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in which he is likely to hold meetings with several foreign ministers at the sidelines.

Bilawal is likely to be returned to Pakistan on May 25 after completing his Davos visit. His foreign visits are scheduled at a time when the country is facing political and economic crises.
