Amazon Space Odyssey: Jeff Bezos Resigning as CEO
Jeff Bezos after serving Amazon for last 27 years, resigning from his responsibilities as CEO and continue as Amazon’s Executive Chairman
In a memorandum to employees, Jeff Bezos declared his resigning from the duties of Amazon that is acting as a serious turning point in one of the most thriving entrepreneurial runs in American history.
Amazon was founded in 1994 by Jeff Bezos as an online bookstore which was later built into one of the largest employers in the U.S. with a network of facilities touching almost every part of the country.
In stepping away from the executive suite, Bezos is following in the footsteps of other tycoons who walked away from running the businesses that made them rich.
Bill Gates stepped down as CEO in 2000 and launched the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation with his wife working to improve global health.
Moreover, Allen left Microsoft in 1983 when he suffered the first bout with cancer but remained on the board until 2000.
After PayPal was sold to eBay in 2002, Musk left and launched electric car company Tesla and solar power company, Solar City.
Similarly, Jack Ma, Founder of Alibaba has fallen foul of the leadership. He was growing too big and becoming too powerful which seemed to rival the authority of the party itself.
During his disappearance of three months, Ma was labeled with rumors like he had fled the country, others added that he was just keeping a low profile.
It was also stated that he was abruptly replaced as a judge on the TV talent shows, Africa’s Business Heroes.
Whereas in an interview, Ma declared his disappearance was due to uplifting China’s rural poor not because of business and regulation matters.

Rumors spread that Jeff Bezos, after resigning, will hand over the CEO reins to Andy Jassy, the head of Amazon’s cash-cow cloud computing division and someone who’s been at Amazon for much of its existence.
