Gharidah Farooqi faces criticism after calling under-trial Shahbaz Gill ‘culprit’

Senior journalist and anchorperson Gharidah Farooqi has seemingly forgotten the difference between politics and journalism as she was seen as a lawyer, a plaintiff and a judge herself.

In a live talk show, she declared the accused Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shahbaz Gill a criminal and after watching the video of his transfer to the hospital, called him a liar and a fraud.

Not only is the talk show, but she also resisted the arguments made by a senior journalist on social media when he recalled the ethics of journalism.

The anchorperson accused PTI Chairman Imran Khan that he made interference and asked the jail authorities not to hand over Shahbaz Gill to the Islamabad police. When asked for written evidence of the orders, the woman said that according to my sources, verbal orders have been given.

Ms Farooqi also declared Shehbaz Gill a criminal instead of an accused in the talk show, on which Senator Saifullah Abro objected that how can you declare the accused person a culprit. “You are not a court or a judge.” However, the anchorperson started a debate and said that this is a crime for me, the voice of this person is there, he has confessed, whoever talks about rebellion in Pakistan is a criminal.

Senator Abro said, “You are not a court, you cannot call the accused guilty, it is not your domain.” On this, she threatened Senator Saifullah Abro and asked if he is defending Shahbaz Gill despite he is guilty. She further claimed that Imran Khan has declared Gill’s inciting statement as a rebellion.

The anchorperson did not give a proper time to Saifullah Abro to speak after making one-sided accusations. To this, Abro protested and advised Ms Farooqi, “If you want to do politics, join a political party, we will not mind.”

On the other hand, Ghareeda Farooqui shared the video of Gill being transferred from Adiala Jail to the hospital and made a very irresponsible comment on it.

“Breathing so hard on the oxygen mask is a new science, no one told Shahbazgul that this is not the hospital where Khan Sahib was supposed to be transferred, the breathing problem should not be faked here, the medical report will come in a few hours.”

On Gharidah’s conduct, Ajmal Jami asked a few questions while trying to correct her, but she got upset. Ajmal Jami wrote that, “Do you even have a basic understanding of the law, constitution or basic human rights? Are you a medical specialist? Have you checked them out? Are you a polygraph examiner?”

Ghareeda Farooqui, pondering over Ajmal Jami’s answer, threw accusations at him. She wrote that you should stay away from my tweets with your hollow and hypocritical language, forgive me. You have not been involved in any dirty campaign against me, today please keep me away from the discourse for your political interests and point scoring. “You should collect appreciation from PTI through these kinds of tweets. Your attendance has been counted. Thank you.”

Ajmal Jami wrote, “When the incident of alleged violence against the housemaid happened, I kept your honour and personal relationship in mind, now tell me who did you request not to do this and let their position come out? Name yourself! It is a pity that I have never been so personal, today I had to answer like this.”

Despite facing Farooqi’s harsh comments, Ajmal Jami strongly condemned the trolling against Ghareeda Farooqi on Twitter. He wrote that the ongoing dirty and disgusting trend against Farooqui is extremely shameful and condemnable. Abusive language and reprehensible trends of moral and political decline should not be encouraged. Those responsible for this depravity are certainly political leaders and they must learn to live with difference of opinions instead of choosing this kind of madness.
