HBL PSL 8: Zalmis fail to defend 242 runs, Sultans make it to the qualifiers

In the 27th match of PSL 8, Multan Sultans defeated Peshawar Zalmi by 4 wickets by achieving a difficult target of 243 runs thanks to Riley Russo’s brilliant century.

Zalmi’s Sayem Ayub has emerged as a star in PSL 8 scoring 5 fifties so far.

After defeating Peshawar Zalmi, Multan Sultans have made a place in the qualifiers, while Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators will decide whether to enter the qualifiers in the match between the two teams tomorrow.

In the match played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Ground, Peshawar captain Babar Azam won the toss and decided to bat first. Sayem Ayub and Babar Azam opened the innings for Zalmi and both players gave their team a brilliant start of 134 runs. Why, Saeem Ayub got out after scoring 58 runs off 33 balls with the help of 4 sixes and 5 fours, while Babar Azam also got out after playing a brilliant inning of 73 runs off 39 balls with the help of 2 sixes and 9 fours.

Mohammad Haris scored 35 runs off 11 balls with the help of 4 sixes and a four, while Tom Koehler Cadmore was dismissed for 38 runs, and Azmatullah Umarzai was not out for 16 runs.

On behalf of Multan Sultans, Abbas Afridi dismissed 4 players for 39 runs in 4 overs, while Anwar Ali proved to be the most expensive bowler and took one wicket for 66 runs in 4 overs.

Multan Sultans did not start well and both openers Shaan Masood and Mohammad Rizwan returned to the pavilion for just 28 runs, Shaan Masood scored 5 runs and Mohammad Rizwan scored 7 runs.

After the early fall of two wickets, Riley Russo and Kieron Pollard hit six fours to take their team’s score forward. Russo first scored a half-century off just 17 balls and then scored the fastest PSL century off 41 balls, scoring 121 runs with 8 sixes and 12 fours.

Kieron Pollard also played good innings of 52 runs off 25 balls with the help of 5 sixes and 3 fours while Anwar Ali scored 24 runs and Usama Mir remained unbeaten with 11 runs.

Multan Sultans achieved the target of 243 runs on the first ball of the 20th over for the loss of 6 wickets and qualified for the play-off stage.

It should be remembered that this is the second time in the tournament that Peshawar Zalmi’s team has failed to defend more than 240 runs. Earlier, Quetta Gladiators had also achieved the target of 241 runs thanks to Jason Roy’s lightning-fast innings.
