Hospitalisation relief to inmates creates rift between Sindh IGP, CM

Hospitalisation relief inmates rift Sindh IG CM shahrukh jatoi

KARACHI: The hospitalisation relief of jail inmates convicted of heinous crimes has created a rift between Sindh police top brass and chief minister after many prisoners were caught spending luxurious life in different medical facilities following special permissions granted by provincial authorities.

In a recent development, a murder convict Shahrukh Jatoi had been found staying at a private hospital for several months which created a rift between Sindh Inspector General (IG) Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar, senior police officers and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah.

Following the media reports, several other prisoners who had been sentenced to life in prison and death sentence were silently shifted back to the jail.

The inmates include key members of political parties and influential officers of different government institutions. Sources said that the inmates include Saeed Bharam, Muhammad Naeem, Salman Abro, Zeeshan, Umair Siddiqui, Siddiq, Kishore Kumar and others.

Prior to the latest rift, the provincial police chief and the government had come face to face after the arrests of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz and her husband Captain Retired Safdar from Karachi’s Avari Hotel.

Sources said that a senior officer-bearer in the Sindh government had approved the permission to shift the prisoners to the hospitals.

On the other hand, Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah decided to hold an inquiry into the happenings and hinted at strict action against those officials who were involved in providing such reliefs to the prisoners.
