The formation of the government by the Taliban will be the first challenge for the group to prove its claims of inclusivity which it had made right after capturing Afghanistan.

The Taliban are in the catbird seat in Afghanistan now as all foreign forces have left the Afghan soil on August 31.

The talks pertaining to the formation of a new government in the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan are over and the announcement phase is impending.

Taliban leader Hebatullah Akhundzada will be the supreme authority of the Emirate while it is reported that the new prime minister or president will be accountable to him.

Meanwhile, the tension in the Panjshir Valley still exists as it has been cordoned off by the Taliban fighters.

However, the Taliban leaders say that they are still hopeful for a ‘peaceful settlement’.

In a country mired in difficulties, forming a government embraceable to all political forces appears to be a daunting task.

On the other side, the western powers are also keeping an eagle eye on the process as they oppose a regime fully in control of the militant group which toppled the US-backed government.

The Taliban are under immense pressure to fill the vacuum as the country is running without absolute authority for over two weeks.

The prominent leaders including Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Muhammad Yaqoub, and Sirajuddin Haqqani, are also expected to attain a key position in the most-anticipated government.

It will also be under scrutiny how many political leaders like former Afghan President Hamid Karzai and Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and technocrats, who backed the US takeover, will be part of the new regime.

The analysts say the formation of an inclusive government is the only way out for the Taliban to secure international aid and diplomatic recognition.
