ISIS-K Challenge Still Looms For Taliban Despite US Departure

The militant fighters did celebratory firing in the capital Kabul as they retrieved the country from foreign invasion after 20 years but there is another test ahead

After the Taliban successfully won the US challenge, another one for them is looming in the form of Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISIS-K).

The last plane carrying the last American in Afghanistan finally exited the airspace of the country on which it had waged war some 20 years ago.

The flight flew from Hamid Karzai International Airport just a minute before the date changed to August 31 as the Taliban had refused to give any relaxation in it.

Further, the US has also closed its embassy in Kabul and moved it to Doha in Qatar.

The leaders of the Taliban regime have declared the ouster of US troops as historic as they have gained complete independence.

After making the country free of American troops, the major challenge for the Taliban leaders in the handling of ISIS-K which has strongholds in Afghanistan.

The group, formed in 2015, displayed its power on August 26 through suicide bombings outside Hamid Karzai International Airport on August 26 which killed more than 170 civilians and 13 US military personnel.

Then there is another attack by rockets fired at the same airport as the evacuation operation was underway.

The analysts said that the mammoth challenge for the new Afghan government will be to get rid of the terrorist organization and its hideouts in Afghanistan.

Or else, it will not only mar the law and order situation in Afghanistan but attacks on any western country from ISIS-K will also be troublesome for the Taliban who are vying to gain global recognition.
