Imran Khan To Pick a Side in Political Turmoil of Balochsitan

A second no-confidence motion has been moved against Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal within a month

Some 14 estranged MPAs of the treasury bench have moved a no-confidence motion against Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Prime Minister Imran Khan is still silent in the whole crisis.

The disgruntled members including those from Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) said in the motion that Jam Kamal’s tenure brought unemployment, instability, crises, and frustration in the province.

The resentful lawmakers said the chief minister lent a deaf ear to their issues.

The motion called for ousting Jam Kamal Khan and the election of a new chief.

This is the second no-confidence motion against the incumbent chief minister within a month. Some 16 MPAs had moved a no-confidence against him on similar grounds last month.

However, the Governor House Secretariat had turned it down on technical grounds.

The estranged MPAs including Saeed Hashmi, Jan Jamali, Mir Zahoor Ahmad Baledi, Asad Baloch, Naseebullah Marri, Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran said they should be called a united group instead of a discontented group.

Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal has already resigned as the head of BAP but says he will not resign under the pressure of 12 or 13 lawmakers.

The chief minister had attempted to pacify the legislators but the efforts remained futile.

Balochistan Finance Minister Zahoor Ahmed Buledi, Minister for Food Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran, Minister for Social Welfare Mir Asad Baloch, advisers to the CM Akbar Askani and Mohammad Khan Lehri, parliamentary secretaries Bushra Rind, Mahjabeen Sheeran, Lala Rashid Baloch, and Sikander Umrani have already resigned.

The chief minister requires the support of at least 33 lawmakers to quash the no-confidence motion in the 65-member house.

Following the upheaval, Balochistan Governor Syed Zahoor Agha reached Islamabad on Monday to discuss the boiling situation with Prime Minister Imran Khan.

The political analysts said Imran Khan has so far remained at distance from the political crisis in Balochistan where PTI is in coalition with BAP.

They said Imran Khan has a key role in the whole scenario but it is uncertain if he asks the PTI members to support Jam Kamal.

Notably, Prime Minister Imran Khan and Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal haven’t met amid the turmoil.
