Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jamshed Iqbal Cheema has challenged the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision of rejecting his and his wife’s nomination papers in the appellate tribunal on Wednesday.
Cheema in his application has said that his papers nomination was cancelled by the returning officer (RO) as his and his wife’s proposers were not residents of NA-133.
The petition submitted by the PTI leader said that the proposer Bilal Hussain belonged to the same UC from which he had submitted the nomination papers.
He appealed to the tribunal to allow him to contest the election while rejecting the RO’s decision. The tribunal will hear the case on November 9.

Under Section 60 of the Election Act, the proposer should belong to the constituency of the candidate.
Earlier, PTI Senator Eizaz Chaudhry had hoped that the decision would be in favour of the party. “I am 50% sure that tribunal will give judgment in favour of Jamshed Iqbal Cheema as mistake is minor,” he said.
It should be noted that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to hold the by-election in the constituency NA-133 on December 5.
It should also be remembered that the nomination papers of PTI candidates from NA-133 Lahore were rejected by the ECP during the scrutiny.
The PML-N had raised objections over the nomination of PTI leaders’ papers, saying that their proposers and verifiers were not from the current constituency.
