WEB DESK: The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) has once again placed Karachi among the 10 cheapest cities globally to live in during the coronavirus pandemic.
EUI rates 133 cities across the world and compares the prices of 138 daily-use items to rank the most expensive and cheapest cities.
The bottom 10 in the EUI list includes Karachi in Pakistan, Buenos Aires in Argentina, Algiers in Algeria, and Bangalore and Chennai in India.

Syrian capital Damascus has been declared as the city with the lowest cost of living.
It is followed by Uzbekistan’s Tashkent, Lusaka in Zambia, Caracas in Venezuela, and joined by Almaty in Kazakhstan.
Sydney, Australia is at number 15, London, England at 20, Moscow, Russia is at number 106, and New Delhi, India at 121.

The US sanctions along with pandemic lockdown hurt the crippling economy of Iran and its capital, Tehran saw the biggest rise in prices.
It elevated rapidly to the 79th position from 106th as per the latest report.
The report mentioned that US Dollar devaluation due to the pandemic situation made destinations in Africa, the Americas, and Eastern Europe less expensive since March.
The countries in Western Europe experienced price-hike due to the rise in the value of the Euro against the US Dollar.

While Hong Kong and Zurich in Switzerland stayed second and third respectively.
Singapore ranks fourth in the list and Osaka in Japan and Tel Aviv in Israel both occupy the fifth position.
In order, Geneva in Switzerland, New York City in the USA, Denmark’s Copenhagen, and Los Angeles in the USA are listed next in the EUI list.
