KP Fails to Implement Sasta Basta Act in True Spirit

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government took an important step to provide facilities to children in schools. The government promulgated Halka Basta Act in December 2020 under which all educational institutions are required to reduce the weight of children’s bags according to their classes.

However, even after three months, the Act is not implemented in several schools.

KP SACM for Higher Education Kamran Bangash explains the law.

Apart from concerns of children and parents, heavy bags can be troublesome for children as well as leave a damaging effect on their health.

According to the experts, children’s bones are not able to bear heavy weights and can exert pressure on their spinal cords. It can also affect the children mentally.

The government is carrying out a series of reforms in the field of education but children’s betterment could only be achieved through implementing acts focusing on their welfare including Halka Basta Act.
