Lance Stroll Admits Aston Martin is Not Competitive

Lance Stroll gave a mixed provisional record of Aston Martin’s first season in Formula 1, on the sidelines of the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Lance Stroll has only managed six top-10s so far this season, and he is 13th in the Drivers’ Championship with a meager 26 points – 16 short of his teammate Sebastian, who is ahead of him in 12th.

“We still scored some good points this year. Of course, the car is not as competitive as last year’s – I have already said that the changes made by the FIA last year really affected us, and that’s why we We are no longer in the position to fight for podiums, ”summed up the 23-year-old driver.

It will be recalled that the FIA had determined that the team belonging to Quebec businessman Lawrence Stroll had not designed the brake cooling system for Racing Point cars, but had instead copied that of the Mercedes team. Strangely, the FIA still allowed Racing Point to continue the season with the problematic parts on its cars.

“Lance Stroll still have a team mentality, and when it’s tough it’s tough for everyone. And when it goes well, it goes well for everyone. When I jump in the car, I always have the mentality to get the most out of it, the most out of myself and keep pushing. It’s like that in F1; the team is competitive sometimes, and sometimes it doesn’t work as well, “he said.

On the other hand, Stroll said he was optimistic about the 2022 season, as many changes to F1 regulations will eventually come into effect – after a one-year postponement due to the coronavirus pandemic – and risk to come and overturn the current hierarchy.

“It will be a whole different story next year. All the teams will have to start from scratch. We have some very good, talented engineers who have been working on next year’s car for a long time, so hopefully we can improve (in 2022), “he said.

All will not be rosy in 2022, however, according to him. He noted in particular that next year’s car will be heavier than the current one, and due to the aerodynamic changes it will perform much less in the corners at low speed, and therefore slower.
