LHC Suspends 15 Lawyers For Holding Fake Degrees

The high court declared that no one would be declared a winner until their degrees are verified

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday suspended practice licenses of 15 candidates holding fake degrees who participated in the Punjab Bar Council (PBC) election.

The high court declared that no one would be declared a winner until their degrees were verified.

Recently, LHC Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan heard the case related to the fake degrees of the lawyers who participated in the PBC election.

LHC Chief Justice Muhammad Qasim Khan passed the orders after hearing a petition filed by senior lawyer Gulzar Butt against non-verification of LLB degrees of the candidates who had participated in the election held on November 28.

The lawyer representing Punjab University submitted the final report in the court regarding the degrees of lawyers.

The counsel informed the court that records of all the candidates are with the university and this report is only related to the extent of LLB degrees.

LHC Chief Justice suspended the licenses of Punjab Bar Council candidates following the report of Punjab University.

Some 15 suspended candidates include Syed Tahir Hussain Bukhari, Mohammad Hafeez, Javed Bashir, Syed Mohammad Imran, Syed Tayyab Hussain Shah, Safdar Saleem, and Mohammad Mazhar Iqbal.

Meanwhile, the licenses of Tariq Riaz and ex-chairman of the PBC executive committee Jamil Asghar Bhatti have also been suspended.

The court ordered all candidates to submit their degrees to Punjab Advocate General (AG) within a week.

The court further directed that the registrar would send the degrees to the universities for verification.
