Maryam Nawaz Takes U-Turn on Extension Question

PML-N leader Khawaja Asif said in a talk show that the party voted in favor of extension of army chief with the approval of party chief Nawaz Sharif

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice President Maryam Nawaz is justifying her position that she did not say regarding extension what has been reported on media.

Maryam Nawaz talked to the reporters outside Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday.

A reporter asked what her party would do on the extension of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman as one, extension to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Bajwa, was already given.

Maryam Nawaz responded that she was not part of ‘that PML-N’.

The party’s vice president apparently put the onus of extension of army chief on party’s president Shehbaz Sharif.

When the court reporters put this on Twitter, the PML-N vice president took notice of it and started justifying her position.

Maryam clarified she never said what was reported on media but the same reply was interestingly reported by other court reporters too on their social media.

The later in the day, senior PML-N leader Khawaja Asif was asked about the extension to army chief in Off The Record show.

He said that the party voted in favor of extension with the approval of party chief Nawaz Sharif, which was exactly opposite to what Maryam was trying to establish.
