Media is in control of businessmen: Fawad

Says in the name of media freedom, blackmailing castles had been built, which should be demolished.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Hussain Chaudhary has said that the media is in the hands of a few people, which is why it is causing a big loss to the Pakistan.

Talking exclusively to News360 in Islamabad, the federal minister said that the Journalist Protection Bill has been approved by parliament, The president will soon sign it, after which it will become a law. He said that reforms have been made for the first time by this bill for the working journalists. Earlier, reforms were made only for seths (businessmen).

Fawad complained that today, all the big newspapers did not bother to print the data regarding advertisements.

 

Therefore, if we give the media in the hands of a few people, it will cause a big loss to Pakistan.

Speaking to a delegation of journalists’ representative organization Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists Professionals, the federal minister said that the journalism is primarily under the control of media businessmen. In the name of media freedom, blackmailing castles had been built, which are necessary to be demolished. Media accountability must be on the agenda of political reforms, he added.

PFUJ Professionals President Mazhar Iqbal informed the federal minister about the difficulties regarding the residential facilities of journalists and demanded to restore the quota of journalists in the federal government’s housing schemes.

The federal minister said that the housing scheme is being made for journalists on the land in Islamabad and other areas of the country. It will be inaugurated soon. Plots will be provided in this housing scheme, this scheme is equipped with modern facilities.

He said that he will talk to the State Bank of Pakistan governor on the issue of providing loans to journalists regarding Naya Pakistan Housing Authority.
Fawad said that it had been decided to issue health cards to all the journalists and steps are being taken in this regard. A ceremony to issue health cards will be held soon, he said.

The federal minister said that the procedure to issue accreditation cards to journalists is being shifted online to facilitate media men.
