12 animals including five birds have died during their relocation to sanctuaries from Marghazar Zoo in Islamabad as it lacked facilities and resources required for the wild animals.
According to the reports, around 513 species of birds and different animals have been stolen during the relocation process.
The transfer of animals from Marghazar was ordered by Islamabad High Court (IHC) in April after a case was registered against the caretakers of the zoo.
Earlier, Kavaan, Pakistan’s only Asian elephant, was relocated to Cambodia after the death of his partner Saheli.
Kavaan was gifted to Pakistan by Sri Lanka in 1985. It caught public eye after living alone for many years.
