Mistakes Doom Packers Without Aaron Rodgers

Packers fall to cheifs

The Chiefs were limited to less than 300 yards of attack, but the Packers special teams errors and a stagnant offense without Aaron Rodgers was the difference as Kansas City beat Green Bay 13-7.

Mason Crosby missed a field goal, was blocked another and a fumble on a kick return gave three points for the Chiefs to win in the first start of Jordan Love, who finished with 19 of 34 completions for 190 yards, a touchdown and an interception, plus 23 yards rushing.

After a three and out of the Packers, Kansas City had its first offense of the game and consumed almost 8 minutes to travel 64 yards and finish in the end zone on a pass from Patrick Mahomes to Travis Kelce.

They wouldn’t have another 50-yard drive for the rest of the game. Green Bay was able to cut back immediately as they reached the edge of the red zone, but Crosby missed the 40-yard kick. Kansas City played it 4 & 1 in their 39 and they missed, leaving a pointless shortstop for a poorly handled cross that ended in a blocked field goal.

It looked like the game was 7-0 at halftime, but on a Chiefs punt, the ball touched Malik Taylor’s toe and that allowed Kansas City to score three more points with 1:54 left. They added three more because the Packers played it at 4 & 5 in the opponent’s 38, but did not convert and Mahomes advanced 25 yards in half a minute for Harrison Butker to make it 13-0.

After five punts to start the second half, Green Bay of Again he reached the edge of the red zone, but Love was intercepted at the 5-yard line. They stopped and finally came the points of the Packers in Love’s pass with Allen Lazard. There were just under 5 minutes left, but Kansas City did not lend him again the ball to the Packers, sealing the victory with an improv play by Mahomes with Tyreek Hill at 3 & 10.

The Packers lose for the first time since Week 1 and will have to wait until Saturday to see if Rodgers exits the coronavirus protocol for unvaccinated players.
