MQM-P in blind alley after withdrawing Senate candidate for PPP
MQM-P was trapped in a blind alley again after withdrawing its candidate for the ruling PPP from a Senate seat.
KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) was trapped in a blind alley again after withdrawing its candidate for the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) from a Senate seat.
The ruling PPP has once again deferred fulfilling its promise with the MQM-P after receiving its support for his Senate candidate Waqar Mehdi who has been recently elected unopposed on Saturday after the withdrawal of the only candidate from Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan.
In return for the Senate candidate’s withdrawal, PPP had promised to appoint MQM-P’s leader as Karachi Administrator, however, no progress was made so far.
It was learnt that PPP asked MQM-P to recommend names for Karachi Administrator’s slot. The ruling political party will choose a name from the list of its own choice. On the other hand, MQM-P was insisting on unconditionally making the appointment as per its recommendation.
Moreover, the PPP did not give any timeframe to finalise the appointment of the Karachi Administrator, sources added.

It is pertinent to mention here that the PPP had taken months to finalise the appointment of MQM-P’s Sindh governor despite the names being forwarded under a political agreement. After much deliberation, the PPP rejected the appointment of Nasreen Jalil and later appointed Kamran Tessori as the Sindh governor.
A few days ago, the ruling Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and its ally Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) had reached a political settlement ahead of the local government (LG) polls.
The political settlement between PPP and MQM-P also included the withdrawal of MQM-P’s candidate in the upcoming Senate elections on December 8 and the appointment of the MQM-P leader as the Karachi Administrator ahead of LG polls.
The decisions were taken in two separate meetings held at Sindh Chief Minister’s House and MQM-P Bahadurabad headquarters.
The talks were held over the directives of PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari who had directed the Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to address all issues to the MQM-P.
