KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Khawaja Izharul Hassan has surprised everyone after he lauded ‘Mohajir dress’ worn by celebrities during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 7.
Khawaja Izharul Haq, who is one of the senior politicians, a lawyer and MQM-P MPA, has welcomed the PSL 7 teams in a unique style by linking the dresses of the celebrities, mostly commentators, with ‘Mohajir’ traditional attires.
He wrote on Twitter, “Welcome #PSL7 All Teams Pakistan in #Karachi Look amazing in Mohajir dress.”

However, the eagle-eyed Twitteratis take on Hassan for his ‘Mohajir’ remark, considering it as an ethnic comment despite the event is representing the whole nation.
A Professor at the University of Sindh, Jamshoro, Dr Arfana Mallah wrote, “It is not a muhajir dress but a common attire of north Indian people, Modi also wears the same dress, so we can say it north Indian dress. It is must be the personal choice of a person, don’t attach any tag with it.”

In Izharul Hassan’s defence, Kunwar Khalid Yunus said, “We are proud to be the #NorthIndian as it is #Mohajir dress now. Our culture remain Ganga & Jamna Civililizatian & we #Karachiites are symbolic of it come what May.”

Hazoor Bux Laghari gave a logical answer to Izharul Hassan and asked him not to promote hatred, saying, “There is no Muhajir in Sindh, Pakistan. Our Urdu speaking brothers r part of Sindh, so do not promote this. The reality is you can find this dress from many parts of the Subcontinent even from ancient Sindh. Both Muslims n Hindus wear such dress. Spread love not hatred.”
