Muted Mourning and Furtive Celebration; Iran after Raisi’s death
Iran seems divided after its President's tragic death, claims Reuters....why 45 years old helicopter for head of govt?
Iran proclaimed five days of mourning for President Ebrahim Raisi on Monday, though the muted atmosphere revealed little of the spectacular public grief that has accompanied the deaths of other senior figures in the Islamic Republic’s 45-year history, reported Reuters.
News agency wrote “while government loyalists packed into mosques and squares to pray for Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian, both killed in a helicopter crash, most shops remained open and the authorities made little effort to interrupt ordinary life”.
Raisi’s opponents posted furtive video online of people passing out sweets to celebrate his death.
Laila, a 21-year-old student in Tehran, told Reuters by phone that she was not saddened by Raisi’s death, “because he ordered the crackdown on women for hijab.”
“But I am sad because even with Raisi’s death this regime will not change,” she said.
Rights groups say hundreds of Iranians died in 2022-2023 demonstrations triggered by the death in custody of a young Iranian Kurdish woman arrested by morality police for violating the country’s strict dress codes.
Mystery of 45 years old Helicopter
The United States administration has blamed the Iranian government for flying a more than 40 years old helicopter that crashed on Sunday, killing Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian and six other passengers and crew….
State Dept spokesman Matthew Miller alleged that Iranian aircrafts are being used to support terrorism, hence US will not apologise over sanction on Iranian regime.
Many aviation expert are flabbergasted that how could a 40 plus years old flying machine was being used by Iranian govt to transport their highest govt office holder?
Most of them whom NEWS360 contacted said that even if there is sanctions on Iran still there is room to acquire new flying machines from other sources for their high govt office holders.
