Nawaz Sharif faces pressure within PML-N for his return to Pakistan

PML-N Supremo Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz faced pressure within the political party for their return to Pakistan to start campaigning after the evolving political situation in Punjab

Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Supremo Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz faced pressure within the political party for their return to Pakistan to start campaigning after the evolving political situation in Punjab after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) sent a summary to dissolve the Punjab Assembly.

The PML-N leaders mounted pressure on Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz to lead political campaigns of the political party ahead of expected elections.

However, Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz did not give any timeframe to return to Pakistan, whereas, the Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz still vanished from public appearance in the crucial phase.

Sources said several PML-N central leaders asked Nawaz Sharif to return and lead the election campaign, otherwise, they would completely lose their grip in Punjab province. Following the demands, Nawaz sought recommendations from PML-N central leaders for options to make his early return possible in the coming days.

On the other hand, PTI expedited its preparations for new elections in Punjab and the establishment of a caretaker government after sending a summary to the governor for the dissolution of the provincial assembly after Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi managed to take vote of confidence.

The PTI started consultations for a caretaker setup in Punjab and it is expected to send names to CM Pervaiz Elahi regarding their recommended names for running the caretaker set-up to make the next step to hold consultations with Punjab’s opposition leader Hamza Shehbaz for finalising the names.

Moreover, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also reached Lahore. Sources said that PM Sharif gave indication to order the Punjab Governor Baligh-ur-Rehman to sign the summary for the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly and looking the feasibility to go to the election phase.

Analysts said PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s reluctance to return to Pakistan gave an impression as he has nothing to do with Punjab province.

They said after back-to-back failures at the hands of the PTI, the top leaders of PML-N are still residing in London, making it difficult for the PML-N leadership in Pakistan to cope with the challenges.
