Nawaz Sharif is Under Mounting Pressure to Return Home

Maryam Aurangzeb has announced that Nawaz Sharif will not return home because of "ruthless" government

WEB DESK: PML-N founder Nawaz Sharif is under mounting pressure to return home to attend his mother’s funeral and face trial.

PML-N leader Maryam Aurangzeb has announced that the party has decided that Nawaz Sharif will not return home because a “ruthless” government is in power.

With Nawaz Sharif’s deteriorating health, death of his wife Kulsoom Nawaz, and now mother, all these incidents can derive sympathy for Nawaz Sharif.

However, an objective look over the case makes it clear that the former Prime Minister was released from jail and sent out by the court on bail for a specific time period for treatment.

Earlier, Nawaz Sharif had agreed that he would return to Pakistan after completion of his medical treatment.

As now his mother’s funeral is taking place in Pakistan, it is high time for him to return and face trial after the burial.

The ruling party and its supporters are also benefiting from the occasion and enticing Nawaz Sharif for his return and inviting him to attend his mother’s last rituals.

This seems like a political point-scoring, as no member of the ruling government ever tried to contact Begum Shamim Akhtar for her well-being when she was alive.

However, with her death, everyone seemed to consider her and the former Prime Minister.
The situation is triggering a question, ‘If not now, then when?’

Earlier, Nawaz Sharif was unable to attend his father’s funeral because he was in exile in Saudi Arabia.

However, Sharif along with his daughter Maryam Nawaz was in prison when Kulsoom Nawaz died and they were released on parole only to attend the burial.

As of now, the PML-founder has no restrictions on his return, the elude from coming back is only a way to prevent trial and imprisonment.

One more thing to consider is that he could stay in London and propagate his anti-establishment rhetoric.

This was never strictly adopted by any former prime minister or leader of the country’s major party before.

Nawaz Sharif had earlier kept his mouth shut for unknown reasons.

But this time Sharif is preferring political rhetoric over his mother’s funeral.
