NICVD Corruption: Documents Confirm Crooked Offers

KARACHI: The corruption in the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD) has come to the fore as appointment and offer letters acquired by News360 revealed corrupt practices of the management.

Some new officials are offered jobs on rewarding salaries which thus not commiserate with their positions.News360 learned that two basic pay scale (BPS) officials are receiving different pays despite being on the same scales.

BPS 18 official Malik Nasarullah was offered Rs 450,000 for post of Administrator Satellite Centre while Bilal Maqsood for the same grade was offered Rs 219,000 for the position of Head of Housekeeping.Interestingly, Jibran Bin Yousuf has been offered a salary of Rs 400,000 for a BPS 17 post of Manager Pharmacy.

NICVD refused to give comments to News360 on the misuse of resources.Meanwhile, Sindh health department has also turned a blind eye to the issue and the related officials could not be reached despite several attempts.

Court Hearing

 

Sindh High Court (SHC) extended bail for those accused in the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB’s) case pertaining to misuse of NICVD funds.

A two-member bench of SHC headed by Justice Muhammad Iqbal Kalhoro directed the NICVD’s accused officials to provide the hospital’s records to the anti-corruption watchdog.

NAB officials informed the court regarding the progress made irregularities’ probe in NICVD’s funds.

They complained that the NICVD management was not cooperating in the inquiry.

NAB officials told the management still did not provide sought records including those of hospital’s bank accounts and human resource (HR) department to them.

The administration is seeking month’s period to produce records, NAB officials apprised.

They pleaded the court to issue orders for the earliest provision of related record as it would help wind up inquiry quickly.

The bench was informed that three accused, including Azra Masood and Karim, had contracted the coronavirus.

Their test reports were submitted in the court too.

Hence, in absence of these officials, SHC directed NICVD Chairman Dr. Nadeem Qamar to provide all required records to the NAB and extended bails of all suspects until December 16.

NICVD officials are charged with errant appointments of employees at the healthcare facility on high salaries despite that the appointees had no prior experience of working at a hospital.
