Opposition demands govt to make public its agreement with TLP

opposition demands tlp agreement details

The opposition has demanded of the government to make public its agreement with the banned Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP).

The federal government had made an agreement with the TLP on November 1. Later, Mufti Muneebur Rehman while addressing a press conference had shared initial details of the accord.

Pakistan People’s Party leader and former chairman Senate Raza Rabbani has urged the government to bring details of the deal with the banned TLP to the surface.

Senator Rabbani said that the people of Pakistan have full right to know the details of such agreements because it is not a case that threatens the security of the state. Such an agreement will affect the rights and lives of a common Pakistani, he added.

Rabbani welcomed the end of violence on the part of TLP with the view to advance the political agenda.

He said that when one person acts as a guarantor between the government and its citizens, it is obvious that the government has lost moral height and public confidence.

PPP Vice-President Senator Sherry Rehman has also asked the government to unveil details of the deal with TLP. She said that the failure to disclose the details of the contract was raising many questions. Therefore, we demand that the government inform the people about the terms of the agreement. She questioned on what basis did the government become a guarantor of the banned organization?

Sherry Rehman said it meant that ‘after bowing down to a banned organization, the prime minister and the government have taken a U-turn from their earlier statements.

PML-N leader and former federal minister Ahsan Iqbal has said that the agreement between the government and the banned organization should be brought to the public and parliament to be aware of all the details. The government should disclose what are the secret details in the agreement that cannot be made public, he added.

JUI-F Senator Kamran Murtaza has demanded that the agreement between the government and the banned TLP should be brought into parliament.
