Over 14,000 births will be recorded in Pakistan on the first day of the New Year 2021 while Fiji in Oceania welcomed the first baby of the new decade, according to UNICEF.
An estimated 14,161 babies will be conceived across Pakistan on January 1, 2021.
However, the average life expectancy of the children given births on the first day of the New Year in Pakistan will only be around 73 years.
The children born in Pakistan will make around 3.8% of the estimated 371,504 to be born on the first day of the new decade around the globe, as per UNICEF.
As per the data released by UNICEF, over half of the total 371,504 births are estimated to take place only in ten countries.

UNICEF Representative in Pakistan, Aida Girma, said that it had been a tight year for people around the globe due to the coronavirus pandemic, economic inequality, and rising poverty.
She added that the outgoing year had left many challenges but the incoming one has numerous opportunities too.

“It’s time to begin to build a better world with welcoming new lives”, Aida said and added that the children coming into the world today will get the world as it was left by the people.
Aida reiterated the resolve of the UNICEF as it marks its 75th Anniversary and renewed the commitment to prevent newborn and child deaths, and give every child, the best start in life.
