Pakistan Railways Decides to Purchase High-Speed Coaches

WEB DESK: Pakistan Railways has decided to purchase 230 modern high-speed passenger coaches to move passengers in comfort and with celerity.
The high-speed engines will be purchased in two phases.
The tender for manufacturing 184 coaches in the first phase has already been floated.
They will be manufactured at Pakistan Railways Carriage Factory in Islamabad.
Some 46 coaches will be imported, Railways officials said.
The distribution will go as some 80 each will be used as economy and air-conditioned standards, 30 would be parlor car while 20 each will be used as luggage and brake vans.

Railways officials say that the measure has been taken to boost business for making the institution profitable along with facilitating the passengers.
A seminar was also organized to ensure transparency in the tender process in which 69 businesspersons and representatives of different companies, both local and international, participated.
The ministry reviewed the suggestions put forward by the participants to ascertain that the whole tender process concludes smoothly.
Further, Pakistan Railways has also decided to induct 820 freight wagons in the rolling stock and a tender in this regard has also been issued.
Some 200 freight wagons will be imported while the remaining 620 freight coaches will be manufactured locally.
