Pay raise: Will media houses follow in ARY Digital Network’s footsteps?
ARY Digital Network announced pay raise up to 80 per cent of workers salaried Rs20,000 in the first phase
One of the leading media houses, ARY Digital Network announced pay raise up to 80 per cent of workers salaried Rs20,000 in the first phase, setting an example for other media houses still blocking salaries and dues of its employees.
President and CEO ARY Digital Network Salman Iqbal made the announcement on Friday, calling it a move after Prime Minister Imran Khan appealed to the corporate sector to hike salaries of employees after making Rs980 billion profits.
The media group has been praised by top leadership including Prime Minister Imran Khan on Twitter.
I appreciate President & CEO of Ary Digital Network Salman Iqbal for responding to my call & raising salaries of employees. I am appealing to other companies who have made record profits during the past year to also raise salaries of their employees. pic.twitter.com/ss9tGjFWxA

The premier also appealed to other companies to hike the salaries of their employees after they collected a record profit.
It would definitely push other media groups to consider pay raises and clearance of workers’ dues.
Media workers are facing hardships for several years across Pakistan following lay-offs and salary cuts in the majority of the media houses in a name of financial crises despite the government claiming to clear their advertisement dues.
Although a few media houses announced to restore the salaries of journalists and media workers, uncertainty loomed over the employment security in media houses. The uncertainty led to protests of media workers and even some of them committed suicides in a distressful situation.
