PDM Gears Up For Second Power Show in Three Days

KARACHI: The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) gears up for its second power show in three days against the PTI-led government at Bagh e Jinnah in Karachi today. Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz vice president Maryam Nawaz along with her team has already reached Karachi to attend PPP hosted showdown.
The PDM flexed its political muscle and held its first power show in Gujranwala on Friday, October 16 where it lashed out at PM Imran Khan and his government.
Hosted by the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), as it commemorates the 13th anniversary of the Karsaz blasts, today’s event will be held at the Bagh-i-Jinnah – a venue that has stood witness to many a political events of the port city, and the ensuing promises of change.
Besides being addressed by the top PPP leadership, the jalsa will also be attended and addressed by Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) vice president Maryam Nawaz and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman. Other political party leaders that are a part of the grand democratic alliance are also expected to attend today’s event.
With the PPP at the helm of affairs in Sindh, the party expects a smooth sailing for the Karachi jalsa. Preparations were in full swing since Saturday with the local administration cooperating fully, unlike in Gujranwala.
PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also paid the venue a visit a day ago to oversee the preparations, where he was briefed by Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah as well as PPP’s Karachi president, also the provincial labour minister, Saeed Ghani.

Meanwhile, PML-N vice president has reached Karachi a while ago to participate in the Opposition’s second jalsa. She was received by a big crowd of party supporters gathered outside the airport.
Maryam was accompanied by party’s spokesperson Murriyam Aurangzeb as well as Capt (retd) Safdar, and PPP central leader Qamar Zaman Kaira on the flight.

Leaving for the Lahore airport from Jati Umra, Maryam, while a responding to media personnel’s questions regarding Prime Minister Imran Khan’s reaction to PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif’s speech at the Gujranwala showdown, said, “It was a speech of a person who had lost. Mian Nawaz Sharif did not even address the prime minister; he had said this ‘game’ is above you [PM Imran] and you should stay out of it”.
In response to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf-led federal government’s dismissal of the event as a ‘failed show of power’, the PML-N vice president said, “The government is unable to see things right now, but it will all be clear to them in a few days”.
