PM Imran Khan introduces system to check tax evasion in sugar industry
The system has been launched to ensure electronic monitoring of sale and production of sweetener.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has launched the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) track and trace system in the sugar sector.
The system has been introduced to ensure the electronic monitoring of the sale and production of sugar.
The prime minister congratulated the Federal Bureau of Revenue (BFR), Advisor to the Prime Minister on Finance Shaukat Tarin and other relevant institutions for launching the digital system.
He expressed the hope that the track and trace system would help check tax-pilferage, taking the annual revenue collection to Rs8,000 billion.

He added that the major issue is that the government has to take loans to run the economy. The prime minister said that countries cannot be run without taxes.
Imran Khan said that the launching of the track and trace system was a positive achievement.
He said that after taking charge the current government had to face the worst economic crisis and deal with many challenges.
He added that our tax collection system was much weaker than the rest of the world and the tax to GDP rate was at the lowest level. We were not able to use our resources efficiently for the welfare of the people, he further said.
Imran said that the current government had brought change in this system and led Pakistan on the path of development which was possible only after the determination of the right direction of FBR. Our priority has been to increase the acquisition of improved and efficient production monitoring, he added.
The prime minister said the current government had for the first time broken the nexus of tax thieves and mafia. The government took difficult decisions and stopped corruption through effective legislation. He said that some elements tried hard to stop our move.
He said that the current government’s economic policy has been to increase digitization and automation in the tax system so that bribery, pressure and tax evasion can be suppressed. The prime minister said that the previous governments had shown reluctance to introduce the track and trace system and could not introduce the system despite trying five times in more than a decade.
