In an important development, Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) has split on political grounds as the Shujaat-led faction is backing the coalition government led by Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) while the Pervaiz-led group is supporting the opposition party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Amid the ongoing political crisis, Pakistan Muslim League Quaid (PML-Q) President and former prime minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain’s younger brother Chaudhry Wajahat’s son Hussain Elahi announced to leave the political party.
Hussain Elahi made the announcement via a Twitter message which was also retweeted by Speaker Punjab Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi’s son and Member of the National Assembly (MNA) Chaudhry Moonis Elahi.
A PML-Q faction led by Chaudhry Shujaat has joined the coalition government, whereas, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and his son decided to support Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Differences had already emerged in PML-Q since the no-confidence motion against ex-PM Imran Khan increased day by day. They tried to reconcile but Chaudhry Hussain Elahi’s tweet to leave the political party was seemingly a major blow to PML-Q.
One of the Chaudhry Shujaat’s sons, Salik Hussain is currently a federal minister and Shafe Hussain held a meeting with Punjab Chief Minister Hamza Shahbaz and showed full support to the PML-N.
In the meeting, Chaudhry Salik Hussain and Shafe Hussain expressed aims to continue supporting PML-N led coalition government till the next elections.
It must be noted that in the last few days when the PML-N and the Chaudhry brothers were going to form an alliance against the Imran Khan government but Moonis Elahi, the son of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi had refused to support the then opposition.
Rana Sanaullah had also said in a statement that Moonis Elahi played the main role in the failure of a political deal between PML-N and the Chaudhry brothers.
