Policeman injured after being allegedly hit by govt vehicle

A policeman has been injured after being allegedly hit by a vehicle driven by the son of a government official in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) area. This issue came to light after it was surfaced on social media.

Mukhtiar Ahmed, the injured policeman, claimed that the vehicle hit him after he had inquired from the two people in the car about it. The incident occurred on December 20.

According to Ahmed, the car was standing in the area in a “suspicious way”. He claimed that he checked the car upon the instructions of the SP.

“When I inspected the car, the person sitting in the driving seat lowered the car window. A girl was sitting on the seat next to him,” the victim said and added that the driver identified himself as Saqib Wasim Ali.

“My father is Sindh’s revenue secretary. How dare you check my vehicle,” Ahmed quoted the person sitting in the car as saying. He alleged that the driver drove his car to the Khayaban-e-Iqbal after abusing him only to return to hit him.

The victim claimed the driver was driving at over speed and careless way. As a result, he got injured. Ahmed stated that his fellow policemen took him to the Jinnah Hospital after he fell unconscious.

A first information report was registered on the victim’s complaint at the Sahil Avenue Police Station under sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 337-G (punishment for hurt by rash or negligent driving), 324 (attempt to commit qatl-i-amd), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Police conducted raids in two bungalows of DHA Phase VIII as they searched for the vehicle.
