Corner Meeting of PPP Goes on But Schools Remain Closed

PPP Corner Meeting Schools

Sindh government has extended the deadline of reopening of schools till August 30 but the Sindh Information Minister Saeed Ghani seems busy organizing corner meeting of PPP.

Earlier this week, Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah had directed all teachers, staff and parents to get vaccinated before the schools reopen.

However, the same clause doesn’t seem to apply to the political leaders and their gatherings.

Protesting over the government’s move, the representative bodies of private and public schools had announced a ‘save education drive’ to push for the resumption of academic activities.

Interestingly, a report issued by the government says that 93% of teaching staff and 87% of non-teaching staff in all educational institutions across the province are vaccinated.

Out of 118,571 teachers in public schools of Karachi, 110,990 of them have completed both doses.

Some 5,855 primary teachers of 6 districts are vaccinated while of 10,070 secondary school teachers, only 769 are left for vaccination as 9,321 are jabbed.

Further, the report shows that 7,405 teachers and 3,720 non-teaching staff have been vaccinated in Hyderabad.

Similarly, 6,069 teachers and 1,905 non-teaching staff are jabbed in Larkana.

Thereby, the government’s decision to close schools has been strongly protested by the Private Schools Association (PSA) representatives.

On the other hand, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) arranged a corner meeting for its members in Karachi but the Sindh government isn’t imposing a ban on them.

Sindh Information Minister Saeed Ghani reached out to his Twitter handle to share some glimpses of workers who participated in the corner meeting held yesterday.

In the pictures, it can be seen that workers are attending the event and none of them were following precautionary guidelines, yet there wasn’t any check and balance on them.
